INPUT SOUGHT ON LILLOOET FOREST ROAD DEACTIVATIONS

VICTORIA – The Ministry of Forests and Range is seeking public comment before May 31, on the possible deactivation of five rarely used sections of Forest Service Road near Lillooet:

ROAD & SECTION               ROAD LENGTH        GENERAL LOCATION

Mud Creek -Paradise Creek     6.6 km                                     Lindsey-Paradise Creek, North of Gold Bridge

Mud Creek-Tyaughton North   0.9 km                                     Lindsey-Paradise Creek, North of Gold Bridge

Texas Creek-Skimath Creek    2.8 km                                     Skimath Creek, South of Lillooet

West Pavilion, Branch 14        4.1 km                                     Moore Lake, North of Lillooet

West Pavilion, Branch 15        3.8 km                                     Moore Lake, North of Lillooet

The proposed deactivations include bridge and culvert removal as well as a road stabilization process, to reduce soil erosion and sediment entry into creeks and streams. The deactivation would also reduce the risk of possible accidents as the road sections have not been used for commercial purposes in recent years, and parts of them may not be suitable for heavy vehicle traffic. The road deactivations would take place this year. The affected areas are accessible by other routes.

The ministry is seeking input from any people, groups or organizations that may be impacted by the road deactivations. Comments should be submitted by May 31 to Shane Stockwell, B.C. Timber Sales, P.O. Box, 4400 Station Main, Merritt BC, V1K 1B8 or by e-mail at Shane.Stockwell@gov.bc.ca
